I’m not a big fan of large cities. I love traveling, but the highlights of traveling very rarely occur within a major city. Usually the best parts of a trip are the out of the way natural attractions. One thing that I do enjoy about cities are the parks. Every city has some kind of carefully sculptured green area where you can get a break from the traffic and the smog.

The largest park in Auckland is the Auckland Domain, but another beautiful park is the Dove Myer Robinson Park in the Parnell suburb. I really liked the lookout at the base of the park.

The park is a great place to jog because it has lots of gentle sloping hills. The park is also home to the largest pohutukawa and the oldest manuka tree in Auckland.

Next to the Dove Myer Robinson Park are two great little gardens: the Parnell Rose Garden and the Nancy Steen Garden. The best time to visit the gardens to see flowers is either October or April.
