About

Welcome to my blog.  This blog is just my chance to learn about blogging and share my experience living in New Zealand.  My husband and I read an article about 1 year work visas to Australia and New Zealand and decided to give it a try.  We figured we might as well try something now, before we were tied down to one spot by serious obligations. We picked New Zealand over Australia because of the exchange rate and lack of things that can kill you.

We enjoy hiking, swimming and just about anything outdoors – at first glace Australia seemed perfect, but as we read more about not going in the water because of crocodiles, alligators, jelly fish and sing rays, we began to realize New Zealand may be better suited to our lifestyle.  We can hike the trails, swim in the lakes, go fishing and do anything without worrying about poisonous spiders or snakes.  There are no wild animals in New Zealand that kill you – unless you are allergic to bees.

So here we are – New Zealand.  We decided to set up a home base near Lake Taupo because the area seemed to offer a lot of activities, and it was a central location to things like the glow worm caves, wine regions and thermal springs.

I hope you enjoy the blog.  It is just a mish-mash of whatever I feel like writing about.
